Your Showreel Has 15 Seconds. Make Them Count.
Casting teams watch dozens of reels in a sitting. Most are closed before the first minute ends. Here is how to be the one they watch to the end.
Nobody scrolls to the middle of your showreel. Directors, brands and casting teams decide in the first few seconds whether to keep watching, so your reel has to earn its place immediately.
1. Open with your best moment.
Not your logo, not a slow intro, not a title card. Start with the clip that shows what you do best. A dancer opens with the strongest move, an actor with the most expressive close-up, a singer with the best note.
2. Keep it between 60 and 90 seconds.
A short reel that makes people want more beats a long one that makes them tired. Cut everything that is merely "okay".
3. Show range, but one strength at a time.
Group clips by skill. Do not jump from comedy to classical to hip-hop every three seconds. Let each strength breathe for a few seconds.
4. Make sure you can be seen and heard.
Face clearly visible, good light, clean audio. A great performance in a dark, noisy clip is wasted.
5. Put your name and contact at the start and the end.
A small text line is enough. If someone loves your reel, they should not have to hunt for how to reach you.
6. Upload it to YouTube and add the link to your profile.
Your profile is where casting teams look next. A reel they can play in one tap, right beside your photos and details, turns interest into a shortlist.
Your talent is the same on every platform. Your showreel decides whether anyone gets to see it.
